Task 6: Storyboards

The purpose of a storyboard is to pre-visualise a sequence you are filming and to create a brief outline of every shot in the sequence with detailed notes at the bottom identifying what is happening in each shot.

Storyboards allow the filmmaker to be able to shoot the film based on the shots drawn and information underneath. Main ones include,
  • Framing - ie close up (CU), long shot (LS), point of view (POV).
  • Dialogue - Parts of dialogue spoken and from this the director can track what part of the film he/she is in from the script (short film, documentary).
  • Actions - What the actors are doing and generally what is occuring in the shot.
